This event is organized to provide university and graduate students in the Edmonton area with mentoring opportunities
from professionals in different areas. It consists of a series of guest speeches and a breakout session where mentors provide students with guidance and tips in career development. |
This event is open for university and graduate students in Edmonton and nearby areas.
Those who have already graduated and are currently seeking employment can also join.
The conference is FREE; however, registration is required to join.
Please note registration will be closed after August 21.
Resume submission is optional, however, we strongly recommend considering it.
If you provide your resume, your mentor will review it and provide feedback.
Please have your resume ready when you register.

Mentor-Mentee Session*
The purpose of the mentor-mentee session is for mentors to transfer key insights relative to their jobs and career paths to attendees who are interested in pursuing similiar professions and careers. The mentor-mentee session will be comprised of three parts;
- Presentation, where mentors will provide brief stories about their academic backgrounds, career paths, and insights into their profession and career;
- Q & A, where mentors will answer attendees' questions; and
- Resume Review*, where mentors will provide their feedback on the submitted resumes as well as general tips on resume preparation.
Nelly Shin
MP for Port Moody-Coquitlam Nelly Shin is the Member of Parliament of Port Moody - Coquitlam. Her election into the 43rd Canadian Parliament on October 21, 2019, makes her the first Korean-born Canadian MP in the House of Commons.Though her former role as Deputy Shadow Minister of Canadian Heritage, Ms. Shin empowered Canadian immigrants through her support for ethnic media and continues to take action against racism. A member of the Standing Committ for the Status of Women, MP Shin is an advocate for women victims of gender-based violence. Throughout the pandemic, she has used her voice to address a variety of issue in the House, including calls for greater action on Canadians' declining mental health. Before entering politics, Ms. Shin was a high school teacher, outreach missionary, and professionaly musician. Her frontline experiences heling marginalized communities and traumatized individuals have cultivated her people-centred approach to politics. |
Tae-Jung (J.) Kwon, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Assistant Professor of Transportation Engineering, University of Alberta Dr. Tae J. Kwon joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta as an Assistant Professor in 2016 after receiving his Ph. D. degree from the University of Waterloo with the Doctoral Dissertation Award. Dr. Kwon's current research focuses on large scale optimizations of intelligent transportation system facilties, geographic information science and satellite remote sensing spatiotemporal analyses of road conditions monitoring and estimations using geostatistics and deep learning. Since 2016, Dr. Kwon has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and attracted more than $1 million in funding from NSERC, Us Department of Transportation, City of Edmonton, Alberta Transportation, CIMA+ and others. Dr. Kwon received the 2019 Great Supervisor Award for excellent supervisory contributions and was selected as the sole recipient of the 2020 Faculty of Engineering Early-Career Research Award in recognition of excellence in research and his influence at both national and international levels. |
Minji Kim
Sr. Research Associate / Gilead Sciences Minji Kim obtained a B.Sc. Honors in Intergrated Science (Forensic Science) from Carleton University and Master's in Envionmental Science from the University of Toronto. The smooth career path she envisioned has taken various career detours due to economic downturn, layoffs, relocation and gloval internship opportunities in Switzerland and Cote d'lvoire. Minji now works as a Sr. Research Associate in Analytical Operations at Gilead Sciences, a research-based biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, dovelopment, and commercialization of innovative medicine. Oustide of work, she volunteers to support career advancement and retention of under-represented groups in STEM as a Mentor in Residence of Women in Science, Engineering, Research and as a general board member of Alberta Women's Science Network. During her free time, you may find her hiking or skiing in the mountains, running in the river valley or playing soccer or ultimate frisbee in a recreational league. |
